Spring Training – 2015

We’ve made it past the Winter Solstice and the daylight hours are getting longer again!  We’ve had a great December (little snow or cold so far) and our thoughts are turning to New Year’s Resolutions – back to running to ward off our holiday gains (in pounds and inches) or to prepare for our summer season of running.

Don’t despair!  I have the solution for each of you (and as many friends as you can attract to help us get through the rest of the winter and through the early spring months).  Coach Brendan’s Spring Training will keep at bay those winter blues.  This 12-week Spring Half Marathon Training Program will begin in mid-February with the first group run to be held on February 14.  Group runs start and finish at Road Runner Sports, 45 North Kingsbury, Chicago.  We begin each group run at 7:30 a.m.

This Spring Training Season targets a half marathon over the first week of May which includes Wisconsin (Kenosha), Flying Pig, Vancouver, Indy Mini and Palos – all held the weekend of May 2 and 3; and it fits well with races conducted from mid-April to mid-May  – including Illinois, Kentucky Derby, St. Jude Country Music, Big Sur and Oklahoma City (all held the weekend of April 25 and 26); and the Soldier Field 10 mile run on the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend.

And with better weather in the springtime, there is the option of Spring Speed Training on Tuesday evenings from March 10 – April 28 to get ready for spring and summer races of all distances.  All speed workouts begin at 6:30 p.m.

There are six training schedules, including Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Schedules for both Half-Marathon Continuous Running and Half-Marathon Run-Walk.  There is no coach more experienced to coach run-walkers how to elicit their best performance in training and racing.
