SUMMER SPEED TRAINING AND MARATHON TRAINING BEGINS IN JUNE.

Coach Brendan has recently returned from Africa where he performed a modified version of an African Triathlon – a week-long safari in Tanzania, the Kilimanjaro Marathon in Moshi, Tanzania, and a trek up to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest point in Africa, and the world’s tallest free-standing mountain.

Running USA Conference

Coach Brendan attended the Running USA Conference in Carlsbad, California, January 31 – February 2, 2010, the premier running conference for coaches, race directors and professionals in the running community.

USA Track & Field Race Directors’ Conference

At the USATF Race Directors’ Conference held at McDonald University in Oak Brook, Illinois, Coach Brendan presented a seminar session entitled: Paving the Road for the Baby Boomers Generation 50+ Market, a discussion on attracting the 50+ Market (Baby Boomer Generation) to races.

AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION JOURNAL

In the October 2009 edition of the American Bar Association Journal, Coach Brendan wrote an article on how to develop a healthier lifestyle through exercise. The link to the article is HERE.

Race Judicata

Coach Brendan was a training Partner with Race Judicata. The 16th Annual running of Race Judicata 5K was held on July 30 in downtown Chicago. The race is supported by law firms in Chicago and benefits Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation, supporting the mission of CVLS to ensure the law works for everyone by providing pro bono legal services for individuals unable to afford legal services.

Coach Brendan worked with law firms and race participants training for the race and promoting a healthy lifestyle.

Competitor Magazine

The July 2009 edition of Competitor Magazine contained an article written by Coach Brendan on the benefits of run/walking while training for and running endurance events. The magazine will be available online in the near future.

Mental Skills in Endurance Running

On July 15, 2009, Coach Brendan presented a seminar on Mental Skills in Endurance Running – How to think through the tough parts of a half or full marathon. The clinic was presented to runners training with Chicago Endurance Sports for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and the inaugural Rock ‘N Roll Chicago Half Marathon.

The Great Wall of China Marathon

On May 16, 2009, Coach Brendan completed The Great Wall of China Marathon. The marathon was on The Great Wall of China and the villages and countryside outside Beijing. This marked the fifth continent on which Coach Brendan has run an endurance event.

Improve your fall marathon performance with either or both of Coach Brendan’s Training Programs:

SPEED TRAINING PROGRAM

As my high school coach used to tell us: “If you want to run fast, you gotta run fast!”

Improve your fall race performance with Coach Brendan’s 18-week Speed Training Program. Various locations along the lakefront (depending on the workout).

This program has proven successful in helping runners improve performance in half and full marathons; endurance base building, and workouts designed to improve speed, strength and endurance for the long haul. Workouts include hill sessions, beach runs and track workouts. Wednesday evenings at 6:30 at various locations along the lakefront. Training starts June 9.

MARATHON TRAINING PROGRAM

Don’t train for a marathon alone. Run with Coach Brendan on Saturday mornings. Train for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon or any other fall marathon with Coach Brendan’s 19-week Marathon Training Program. Long runs will be held on Saturday mornings along Chicago’s beautiful Lakefront Running Path starting at Wilson and Lake Shore Drive. Training starts June 5.
